Monarch Landing Hosted Groundbreaking Ceremony and Reception

Crediting deliberate and intensive study and work along with true integrity, Leila Zweibel spoke on behalf of her fellow Monarch Landing residents at what she said was a celebration of an auspicious occasion. On Tuesday, April 9th, Monarch Landing hosted a groundbreaking ceremony and reception for its health care center. The senior retirement community introduced its independent living apartments for individuals 62 and over, six years ago. Its health center will include assisted living memory support, rehabilitation and skilled nursing services. Its addition fulfills the promise of Monarch Landing to provide complete continuing care for seniors.

Original Monarch Landing owner Erickson declared bankruptcy two years ago, jeopardizing the health center phase of continuing care. Senior Care Development purchased the community and committed to fulfilling this mission. “On the part of our residents I must acknowledge David Reis our owner, and his superb team at Senior Care Development. We would not have risen to this occasion without you,” said Zweibel at the groundbreaking reception. She also lauded Life Care Services, which manages Monarch Landing.

Zweibel also credited staff and residents who worked hard during the challenging process of earning approval to proceed with the project. Late last year, 120 residents wrote letters to the Illinois Facilities and Services Review Board and more than 40 residents attended the Certificate of Need hearing to show their support for the health center.

The groundbreaking celebration included the screening of videotaped testimonials of Monarch Landing residents who emphasized the positive effect that the existence of the health center will have on their lives. Present and delivering brief congratulatory messages were Mayor George Pradel of Naperville and Mayor David Brummel of Warrenville, both of whom have been staunch supporters of Monarch Landing's health center. Jerry Walleck from architectural firm Perkins Eastman showed renderings of the building which is slated to open in 2014.

“This is a new adventure for us. Thus far at Monarch Landing, we have been made to feel secure, well-fed, active, educated and yes, relevant. We have been living in a warm environment with great friends and leaders. Now, we are advancing to a new level, more comfortable as we begin to see this new Health Center option come to fruition; an option that may positively and significantly impact many of our lives,” said Zweibel.
