Franklin Middle School Fine Arts Department Hosts Inaugural Art Walk

On Friday, May 10 Franklin Middle School students' artistic abilities will take the spotlight in Wheaton. The event boasts choir, drama, and orchestra performances as well as students' visual art throughout the downtown Wheaton area.

The event will run from 5pm to 8pm and will kick off on Hale Street, in the walkway between Ivy and Front Street Cocina. “Franklin Middle School has a tremendously talented student body and the Art Walk will serve as a celebration, of the students' learning. It's also a terrific opportunity for the students to connect with their community,” said Franklin teacher Christopher Grodoski. “We are fortunate to have businesses here in Franklin-country stepping up to support the event. Our hope is to coordinate the Art Walk annually as a capstone experience for students with benefits for the downtown merchants and community at large as well.”

Guests at the event will receive a program at the kick off location, which outlines the evening's agenda in addition to a map illustrating performances locations and visual art displays. The map will serve as a “passport” to be stamped at each location. Completed passports can be turned in for a chance to win a Wheaton-themed gift.

“In addition to the art work displayed at the various locations, there will be ten banners hanging from various street lamps throughout downtown. These banners will be displayed throughout the month of May and auctioned off to raise funds for Franklin's Fine Art Department,” said Grodoski. “We have set up an easy-to-use auction site in hopes that proud families and friends will pass along the link to others so they can view the artwork or even bid on it.” The auction site can be found at http://bit.ly/10YKFQ7 .
