Baffled by Kirk’s gay marriage stance

I am bewildered by Senator Kirk’s announcement in support of gay marriage. He said that, “life comes down to who you love and who loves you back — government has no place in the middle.”

But gay couples already live together without government being in the middle. The Supreme Court overturned prohibitions against homosexual conduct in 2003. Nonintervention is the status quo.

The recent media barrage for gay marriage is just the opposite; it is a demand for government involvement, for regulation, and for endorsement of homosexual relationships through licensing.

Sen. Kirk’s rationale for supporting gay marriage is completely backward. I hope we can count on him and our other elected representatives to keep government out of efforts to redefine marriage which should remain the union of one man and one woman.
