Voters want Mundelein clerk to be elected post

Mundelein’s village clerk will continue to be an elected position, local voters decided Tuesday.

With ballots in all 21 precincts counted, unofficial results showed 1,172 people voted to keep the post elected. Conversely, 983 people favored making the clerk an appointed job.

That doesn’t include early votes or ballots cast through the mail.

The clerk has been a part-time, political post for years. But last fall, officials decided to ask voters if they wanted a change.

Newcomer Katy Timmerman was the only candidate for the post in Tuesday’s election.
