London Lightning has an undefeated season

The 2012 seventh-grade girls basketball team from Jack London Middle School in Wheeling captured the 2012-13 Mid Suburban Middle School Athletic Conference championship.

The schools in the conference are Lincoln and River Trails, both in Mount Prospect; Cooper, in Buffalo Grove; MacArthur, in Prospect Heights; St. Peter Lutheran, in Arlington Heights; and Holmes and Jack London, both in Wheeling.

Besides being the conference champions, the girls had an undefeated season, winning all 12 games, a first for any sports team at Jack London Middle School.

“As parents we could not have been more proud of the girls — they worked very hard as a team. It was exciting and fun to watch them play and achieve their goal,” said London parent Lisa Cesek.

Bill Henderson, a sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade technology teacher at Jack London, coached the team. Team captain was Nansy Velev, who led the team and was chosen as M.V.P.
