Barrington Redwings MITE AA Gold Team wins NIHL 2012-13 President’s Cup

The Barrington Redwings Hockey Organization is proud to announce its Mite AA Gold team has won the Northern Illinois Hockey League’s President’s Cup.

This award is given annually to the team with the most points at the end of the regular season. Posting 11 wins, 0 losses and 3 ties, the Redwings were one of only five NIHL teams out of more than 37 youth hockey organizations, 300 hundred teams, 23 divisions, and more than 4,500 players from Bloomington, Illinois through the Wisconsin State line to boast an undefeated regular season record this year. This represents the third President’s Cup win for the Redwings organization.

The Mite AA team closed out the playoffs in February’s Wolves Cup Championship game with a second-place finish against the Darien Hawks; one of the teams they tied during the regular season.

Drawing from neighboring Northwest communities like Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox River Grove, Inverness, Kildeer, Lake Zurich and Barrington, The Redwings Hockey Organization (RHO) has just under 100 kids (ages 5-14) that make up nine youth hockey teams.

Hockey director Stephen Martins, a former NHL player and local Chicago Wolves favorite, has emphasized the important impact team sports can have on kids of all ages.

“Being able to use the great game of hockey to teach the virtues of hard work, perseverance, respect and sportsmanship in a safe and fun environment has been so rewarding on so many levels. This group of kids have had so much fun this season and it’s great that their efforts have been recognized with the President’s Cup honor,”Martins said.

The Redwings Hockey Organization is currently accepting registrations for Spring Learn to Skate, Scooters and Youth Hockey, set to begin April 1, running through May. Additional Information about these programs can be found at redwinghockey.com.
