Wheaton Montessori Students Explore Grand Teton National Park

Jackson, WY –Fourteen elementary school students traveled from Wheaton, IL to Jackson Hole on March 3rd for a week of outdoor exploration. The students stayed at the Jackson Campus of Teton Science Schools and spent the week exploring Grand Teton National Park.

The students skied and snow-shoed through Grand Teton National Park, guided by instructors from Teton Science Schools, while investigating the different plant communities of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

While travelling in the shadow of the dramatic Teton Range, the students focused on making connections between the ecology of Wheaton and the ecology of the Tetons. They also worked to develop and improve their leadership and teamwork skills. Students completed a snow science project, solved teambuilding challenges, and studied nocturnal animal adaptations on a night hike. The trip also included visits to the National Wildlife Art Museum and the National Elk Refuge, where students rode on horse-drawn sleighs to observe elk behavior up close. At the end of the week a parent noted, “This is one of the coolest, organized, well planned program I have ever been a part of; with a staff who is obviously very well trained and extremely knowledgeable.”
