Mount Prospect Fire Department shares ‘Meals from the Heart’

On March 6, the Mount Prospect Fire Department, in conjunction with Operation North Pole, participated, for a second time, in the “Meals from the Heart” program at the Ronald McDonald House, located at the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital.

The Meals from the Heart program offers small groups of volunteers the opportunity help the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House find nourishment and comfort in a shared, home-cooked meal.

Eight members of the Fire Department’s Administration and Fire Prevention Bureau planned and served “Cold Weather Comfort Food” including meatloaf and mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, minestrone soup and brownies and ice cream sundaes for approximately 35 people. All of the food for the meal was donated by BlackFinn American Grille, located at Randhurst Village, in Mount Prospect.

While at the Ronald McDonald House, fire department members had the opportunity to eat and visit with the families. They also spent time making homemade pizzas with some of the children staying at the house.

“This is our second time participating in this program and it is such a wonderful opportunity to meet some truly amazing people,” said Fire Chief John Malcolm.
