Suit alleges Illinois teacher duct taped student

CHICAGO — A suburban Chicago woman has filed a lawsuit accusing a teacher of duct taping her 11-year-old son's face after telling him to stop talking in class.

The lawsuit filed this week in U.S. District Court in Chicago by Princess Dempsey on behalf of her son says the Lindrop School teacher put an index card on the boy's mouth, then wrapped tape around his head.

When it was removed 45 minutes later, it allegedly tore out chunks of his hair and injured his face. The suit says the incident took place in February 2012.

Dempsey's attorney, Standish Willis, says Dempsey is on Lindrop's school board. She has also run unsuccessful races for Illinois state representative.

The suit seeks more than $100,000 in damages.

Messages seeking comment from the district weren't returned.
