Elgin man charged with molesting young girl
Police charged a 28-year-old Elgin man with aggravated criminal sexual abuse after they say he molested a young girl.
A Cook County judge ordered Procoro Berruquin held on $100,000 bond following a hearing Wednesday in Rolling Meadows.
Police say that after the assault, which occurred about 3 p.m. Feb. 15, the 11-year-old girl told a neighbor who urged her to tell her mother. The girl did so the next day and her mother contacted police, Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Catherine Levine said.
Meanwhile, Berruquin, who has no criminal background, reportedly sent the mother apologies via text message and tried to contact her by phone, authorities said.
Elgin detectives obtained an order to listen to and record those conversations. They arrested Berruquin on Monday after observing and recording a meeting between him and the girl’s mother.
Berruquin next appears in court on March 22.
