4-H Favorite Foods Cooking Contest
The Clever Clovers 4-H Club hosted a cooking contest at Thomas Middle School in Arlington Heights for youth ages nine to fifteen. 4-H members competed by preparing one dish from scratch while being judged for their cooking techniques and kitchen safety. The youth also had to show that they could plan a well-balanced day's menu incorporating a variety of textures, colors and flavors.
Brandon Ball, of Arlington Heights, placed first in the under 12 division with his Breakfast Burritos. John Gut, of Mount Prospect, prepared Spiced Spinach earning second place. August Graham, of Arlington Heights, received Honorable Mention for his Steak Tacos.
The older age category was won by Kaitlyn Ball with her Three Cheese Ravioli with Fresh Pasta Sauce. She impressed the judge with her ease in making fresh pasta. Rhegan Graham, of Arlington Heights, made Chicken Caesar Salad. Skyler Russell's Almond Cake earned Honorable Mention.
The Table Setting Contest was won by Ellie Gut. This portion of the contest involved being able to correctly display a place setting around a theme with a centerpiece designed by the 4-H member.
The youth were excited to demonstrate their cooking skills, while competing for prizes.
