Schaumburg Y to manage Elgin-area YMCAs

The Alfred Campanelli YMCA in Schaumburg on Saturday, Feb. 16, will assume management of the Prairie Valley Family YMCA — formerly the Elgin YMCA — along with its four branches: Camp Edwards, Taylor, Gilberts and St. Charles.

Gary T. Bublitz, president and CEO of the Campanelli YMCA, made the announcement Thursday, saying that during the upcoming months, the boards of both YMCAs will be focusing on reducing debt and overhead while continuing to provide high-quality services.

Bublitz said the move is consistent with the YMCA of the USA recommendations for smaller Ys to join together to become more efficient and provide more services.
