Aurora Christian wins 1st regional
Aurora Christian won the first regional title in school history Thursday with a 49-43 victory over Serena in the Class 2A Wilmington regional championship game.
Trailing 25-18 at halftime, Aurora Christian outscored Seneca 20-12 in the third quarter to take a 38-37 lead into the fourth quarter.
The No. 1 seeded Eagles (19-8) were once again led by Alyssa Andersen’s 17 points and 6 rebounds. Alex Hultine scored 12 points, Kirsten Madsen 9 points and Natasha Brown had 4 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals.
Chelsie McCormick scored 18 points to lead No. 2 seed Seneca.
Aurora Christian will play Peru St. Bede at 6 p.m. Monday in the Class 2A Somonauk sectional. St. Bede defeated Ottawa Marquette 53-38 Thursday to win the Spring Valley Hall regional.
Boys basketball
Aurora Central Catholic 50, St. Francis 43: Entering the fourth quarter, the Chargers (13-9, 5-4) and Spartans (17-5, 5-3) were tied at 34-34 before the Chargers went on a 16-9 run to close the game and win the Suburban Christian Conference Blue Division matchup in Wheaton.
Phil Schuetz led the Chargers with 17 points and Mike O’Donnell added 9.
