Hanover Twp. OKs electrical aggregation referendum
This Hanover Township board of trustees recently approved putting an electrical aggregation referendum on the April ballot. It will apply to only the 2,346 township residents in unincorporated Cook County, officials said. If approved, the township will negotiate with utility companies other than ComEd to supply electricity. ComEd would continue to maintain the power infrastructure and distribute electricity. Residents can opt out of the program, but otherwise would be enrolled automatically. In the past year, dozens of area communities have secured lower rates through agreements with alternative power suppliers.
