Century Tree program coming to Wauconda

The Village of Wauconda has implemented a Century Tree Program to help recognize the 100th birthday of the village's most valued citizens. N

ative ornamental parkway trees will be planted in honor of this true milestone event. The trees will be located along the Wauconda Park District's walking path and small placards will accompany each tree to allow future passers-by to become familiar with one of the Village's greatest natural assets - residents with strong roots in the community.

On Feb. 5, Mayor Mark Knigge and the Board will be honoring the village's first recipient of the Century Tree Program.

Long-time resident Mr. Russell Whitney will be recognized for his 100th birthday, which occurred on Jan. 28th, 2013. He and his family will also receive a commemorative certificate, and can witness or participate in the tree planting ceremony in the spring.
