Husky Heroes return to Morton Arboretum
Siberian huskies will demonstrate their speed, strength and agility this weekend at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle — snow or no snow.
The dogs are the featured attraction during the arboretum’s 10th annual Husky Heroes program and will participate in a variety of sled-pulling and other demonstrations.
Visitors also can watch a free presentation and film about huskies’ role in Alaskan history, take a family photo with an authentic sled dog and even meet some canines in need of fostering and adoption.
Dog sledding and skijoring demonstrations are scheduled for 11:30 a.m., 12:45, 2 and 3:15 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 26 and 27, at the arboretum, 4100 Route 53.
Visitors can interact with the dogs and get their pictures taken with the pooches from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. There will be chances to check out a dog sled, buy specialty items and look into fostering and adoption opportunities.
A film presentation called “The Last Great Race” focuses on the role huskies played in Alaskan history and current dog sled competitions. The program is offered at noon, 1:30 and 3 p.m. Free tickets are available at the Visitor Center information desk one hour before each presentation.
All activities are free with arboretum admission.
