Canceled Barrington High School dance rescheduled
A Barrington High School dance canceled last week after a gun threat at the school has been rescheduled for Saturday, Jan. 26, school officials reported Wednesday.
Officials postponed the Dec. 15 dance after receiving reports that students overheard classmates talk about bringing a firearm to the event. The dance was sponsored by the Youth Advisory Council of the Barrington Area Community Foundation as a fundraiser for local charities and nonprofits. The theme was to be a spoof of some interpretations of the Mayan calendar signaling the end of the world this month.
After an investigation into the threat, school officials and police said there was no credible evidence of a gun and they could not verify that there was an actual threat.
