NISP community ambassador attends Streamwood tree-lighting

Northern Illinois Scholarship Program Community Ambassador Arielle Christopher, 13, of Streamwood, appeared at the Streamwood Holiday Tree-Lighting Ceremony and Luminaria event Friday, Dec. 7, at Streamwood Village Hall, 301 E. Irving Park Road, Streamwood.

Good weather helped to increase the attendance of volunteers, civic organizations and families to bring the holiday spirit to Streamwood by attending the holiday tree-lighting and luminaria event on Friday evening.

“I liked the social hour where families got to listen to Christmas carols, drink hot cocoa and eat cookies.” said Christopher.

The festive celebration began around 6:30 p.m. Christopher appeared at the event to attend the holiday tree-lighting ceremony and, of course, give her Christmas wish to Santa.

Christmas carols were performed by the Streamwood Community Choir and families got an opportunity to take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Christopher also posed for photo-ops with Village President Billie D. Roth and several other village officials before going outside to watch the tree-lighting ceremony that started around 7:30 p.m.

Christopher is a representative of the Northern Illinois Scholarship Program, which is based in Wauconda. It is a program with a pageant in Illinois that embraces the importance of community service. Christopher will travel in her year of service throughout Cook County to serve her community as a goodwill ambassador. Her platform is to support the needs of children suffering from financial and medical hardships.
