Twenty First Star NSDAR Announce American History Scholars and Good Citizens Award Winners

The Twenty First Star Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution is pleased to announce students of Maine East, Maine South, Maine West, Niles North and Niles West High Schools as their “Outstanding American History Scholars” and “Good Citizens.”

The American History Scholars are selected from junior history students in the spring by faculties at the high schools. From this group, each school announces their top student. The criteria used may differ slightly at each school, but includes: scholarship; commitment to academic excellence; a passion for history; a love of learning; positive attitude; and good character.

Maine East High School’s winner is Teodora Ivanova. Maine South High School’s Peggy Ross American History Scholar is Natalie Kirchhoff. Maine West High School’s winner is Pha Thaprawat. Niles North’s winner is Jessica Brand and Niles West’s winner is Oleksiy Kamenyer.

Five students from the Maine and Niles townships high schools received the DAR Good Citizen Award. To earn this award a student needs to demonstrate leadership, service, dependability and patriotism, and be recognized by their teachers and members of the senior class for these accomplishments.

Maine East High School’s Good Citizen is Kathleen Brehmer. Maine South High School’s winner is Jane D. Acker. Georgia Jean Petersen is Maine West High School’s winner. Niles North High School’s winner is Stephanie Drucker and Niles West High School winner is Lyba Zia.

Any woman age 18 and older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership in the DAR. Our Twenty First Star Chapter provides genealogy research assistance to apply for membership. Please contact Dorothy Wilson at (847) 328-6946.
