ISU’s Hispanic graduation rate improves
NORMAL, Ill. — Illinois State University is making gains when it comes to the graduation rate for Hispanic students.
WJBC Radio reports that ISU is ranked 19th in the nation when it comes to Hispanic graduation in a recently released report by the nonprofit group Education Trust. The group says ISU raised its Hispanic graduation rate by almost 19 percent from 2004 to 2010.
Illinois State is the only Illinois school in to make the group’s top-25 list.
Provost Sheri Everts credits the improvement to ISU’s focus on individual attention and diversity. She says the Julia N. Visor Academic Center is one of the primary reasons the graduation rate has increased. The center provides group tutoring and one-on-one writing assistance for all students.
