Northbrook neurologist's ebook describes advanced headache treatment measures

A new ebook by Northbrook neurologist Lawrence Robbins, one of the nation's leading headache specialists, helps doctors and patients learn about cutting-edge headache treatment.

The book contains highlights from Robbins' writings during his 26 years overseeing Robbins Headache Clinic. It's entitled: “Headache 2013: A Comprehensive Guide to Headache Treatment, Including Advanced Approaches for When Nothing Has Helped.”

Robbins' clinic is the largest headache practice in the Chicago suburbs, with more than 2,000 active patients — including hundreds of patients from the northwest and western suburbs. Many patients have turned to Robbins for help with especially stubborn headaches that had resisted all treatment. Where other treatments have failed, Robbins often succeeds with advanced measures that include Botox injections, herbs, intravenous medications and stimulant medications.

“Those patients with especially difficult headaches need something that reflects an out-of-the-box approach,” said Robbins, who repeatedly has been chosen as one of America's Top Doctors.

Patients at the clinic — located at 60 Revere Drive, Suite 330 in Northbrook — receive highly individualized treatment from Robbins, MD, and Nurse Practitioner Brooke Phenicie, NP-C.

Topics in the ebook include individual prescription medications; herbs and dietary supplements; headaches in children and adolescents; lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise; psychological disorders that can accompany headaches; and coping skills.

More information on the book is available at Robbins Headache Clinic's website, http://headachedrugs.com/. The site includes a blog updated daily with educational information about headaches and related health topics.

In addition to the America's Top Doctors honor, Robbins also has been named one of Chicago's Top Doctors by Chicago Magazine. He received the 2008 Janet Travell Clinical Pain Management Award, given to one physician per year by the American Academy of Pain Management. He was assistant professor of neurology at Rush Medical College from 1992-2011.

Robbins has spearheaded cutting edge research, ranging from the immune system in headache patients to Botox for headache. He has written three books and more than 200 articles and abstracts.
