Peoples' Bank Invites High School Seniors to Enter Scholarship Contest
After submitting applications for students who were selected as winners in the past two years, The Peoples’ Bank of Arlington Heights is encouraging local high school seniors to apply for the 2013 Community Bankers Association of Illinois (CBAI) Foundation Scholarship Program. The program has been expanded this year, making more scholarship funds available. Interested students from the area can pick up an application at either of the bank’s two locations at 41 South Vail Avenue and 1104 South Arlington Heights Road.
The contest offers a $1000 scholarship to the winner from each of thirteen areas throughout the state. Now in its twenty-seventh year, the contest has also added a second prize of $500 in each region. The CBAI judges will also select one overall winner who will be eligible to have their $1000 award renewable for four years, and their high school will receive a $500 award from the CBAI.
Along with the application, the student must submit an essay on this year’s topic “How do community banks make dreams come true?” Completed materials are due no later than January 25th, 2013.
The Peoples’ Bank of Arlington Heights has had a recent run of success as one of their applicants was a $1000 winner in 2012, and the overall statewide winner of the $4000 prize in 2011 was also submitted by the local bank.
Peoples’ Bank representative Harland Krebel, Jr. welcomes the opportunity to assist students again this year. “We are happy to spend time with the students in terms of getting applications taken care of and in developing their essay. It’s been very rewarding to have local students selected as winners and the additional scholarship money this year adds some more excitement to the process.”
Krebel suggests that students stop in as soon as they have completed submitting their college applications. “The college search is still on their minds so it is a good time to jump in and address the scholarship process. The holiday break often provides a little free time to get this done.” With anywhere from $500 to $4000 available, a little time spent can be very rewarding.
