Sex offenders spend trick-or-treat hours at sheriff’s office
The Cook County Sheriff’s Department kept close tabs on nearly 90 registered sex offenders Wednesday, requiring them to be at sheriff’s offices during trick-or-treat hours.
The department sent notices to the 69 registered sex offenders in unincorporated Cook County telling them to be at the sheriff department’s Maywood headquarters from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Sheriff’s deputies conducted address verification checks on them during the day.
Sheriff’s deputies said they would fill the five hours by requiring registered offenders to provide updated information about themselves and be rephotographed, and to watch a 30-minute video aimed at keeping them in compliance with laws pertaining to convicted sex offenders.
The sheriff arranged for a similar gathering in Ford Heights for the 19 registered sex offenders in that community.
