Santa arrives at Woodfield Nov. 8

In a move that makes sliding down the chimney seem commonplace, Woodfield Mall has plans for a magical Santa’s Arrival, unlike anything area families have enjoyed before.

Set for 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 8, in Woodfield’s Grand Court, festivities will feature the top illusionist Walter “The Spellbinder” King in a performance whose finale will have Santa materializing out of thin air to lead children and parents in his traditional arrival parade. After a parade through the mall to the celebratory cadence of the Conant High School drum corps, Santa will flick the switch on the opening of Woodfield’s newly transformed holiday Ice Palace.

“The holidays are always magical at Woodfield; this year we’re simply making that reality a bit more tangible,” said Woodfield marketing director Lisa Stricker. “The best magic of all is in being able to provide our loyal families with a special holiday treat they won’t soon forget.”

Woodfield’s 30-foot-tall, walk-through Ice Palace, the centerpiece of the mall’s popular, interactive holiday display, features falling snow, a light show and for the first time, the beloved prehistoric herd from the movie “Ice Age: Continental Drift.”

Interactive globes will showcase Scrat on his endless mission to catch his precious acorn, while the “Ice Age” herd is adrift, across the way on an iceberg in pirate waters. Families can measure their prehistoric heights against Sid & Diego, go paw-to-paw with the herd, and track down Scrat’s missing acorns throughout the palace. The high seas adventure culminates with a visit to Santa and a special gift from “Ice Age.”

Santa photo packages will feature an exclusive pre-order for a Blu-ray or DVD of “Ice Age: Continental Drift.” Also included in each photo package is a Snapfish promotional certificate for a free photo book and a Snappy activity book.

Woodfield Mall is home to nearly 300 stores and restaurants. Located at Route 53 and Golf Road in Schaumburg, Woodfield is the top tourist destination in Illinois. For information on hours and seasonal events, visit shopwoodfield.com, or call (847) 330-1537.
