Lombard Great Western Trail Bridges Project continues

LOMBARD, Illinois—The construction continues on the Great Western Trail Bridges project with installation of beams on Friday, October 26 and Monday, October 29. Traffic will be affected with periodic lane closures and a street closing on the scheduled days.

The contractor, D Construction, Inc. of Coal City, has scheduled the first beam installation over St. Charles Road at the Great Western Trail on Friday, October 26 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. St. Charles Road will be closed down to one lane in each direction during this time period. Traffic will be stopped periodically for 15 minute intervals, while they are setting the beams.

The second beam installation is scheduled over Grace Street on Monday, October 29 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Grace Street will be completely closed between St. Charles Road and Prairie Avenue for the installation operation. Due to the limited width of the road, it is necessary to close it completely.

The project is managed by the Village of Lombard and the Illinois Department of Transportation. The goal of the project is to make users of the Great Western Trail safer and eliminate the need to cross three busy areas at the intersection of Grace Street and St. Charles Road, those being Grace Street, St. Charles Road and the Union Pacific railroad tracks.
