CCU's seeks volunteer candidates for board of directors

Waukegan, IL, October 16, 2012: Of the many great reasons people choose a credit union to handle their financial needs, one benefit stands out above the rest: credit unions Members are also owners. As owners, credit union Members have a voice in the operation of their financial institution, including the opportunity to run for the Board of Directors. In that spirit, Consumers Credit Union (CCU; $580 Million, Waukegan IL) is accepting nominations for Members to run for its Board of Directors.

“Many people want more control over their financial future, especially in today's economic times,” said Sean M. Rathjen, CCU President. “Credit unions offer a unique opportunity to do just that, because our Member-owners serve on our all-volunteer Board of Directors. Right now, Consumers Credit Union is looking for Members with an interest in guiding the future of CCU and our 57,000+ Members. Our Board consists of twelve Members from many different backgrounds, diversity that help assure we explore each issue from a variety of perspectives!”

Volunteers serving on the Board of Directors must attend meetings approximately once per month throughout the year. “Our Board takes their responsibilities quite seriously,” continued Rathjen. “Their focus and insight on the operational aspects of CCU and its inner workings have helped us grow and evolve since 1930. We encourage all Members to consider serving on our Board and are confident we'll receive many qualified applicants. In fact, active Member involvement and commitment has been an important asset of this credit union for 83 years.”

Interested Members can send their statement of intent via e-mail to Board@myconsumers.org, or by mail to Consumers Cooperative Credit Union, Attention: Nominating Committee, 2626 N.
