Portillo’s under construction on Randall in Elgin

Yes, it’s coming soon.

Many of you have been emailing to find out what that building going up near Walmart at Randall and Bowes in Elgin is.

Your emails were hopeful that it would be the long talked-about Portillo’s of Elgin.

Well, I have good news. It is the Portillo’s under construction at the southwest corner, Elgin Senior Planner Sarosh Saher said.

And if all goes according to schedule, the popular eatery is expected to open along the Randall Road corridor in February, Saher said.

So for now, if you’re cruising the Randall Road corridor and have a craving for Portillo’s, you’ll need to stop at the one in Batavia on Randall.

But come February, you will have two choices to pick from on Randall Road.

Mike Davis is one who has been wondering what the building was going to be.

“I do not frequent fast food places that often, but when I have gone to Portillo’s, I have enjoyed my meal,” he said. “I think they will be a good addition to the restaurants on Randall Road.

“Hopefully, they will occupy a different niche that will not hurt other businesses in the area,” he said.

Halloween fun: Trendy Tots consignment shop along Randall Road in Carpentersville is hosting a Halloween party this weekend.

The party runs from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21.

There will be a Halloween costume contest, a piñata, games and prizes.

And if you don’t have a costume yet, you can check out the costumes and Halloween-style clothes they have for sale on consignment at the store while you’re there.

Things Remembered is expected to open before year’s end in the outdoor mall along Randall Road.

So, if you’re hoping to get something engraved for a gift this Christmas season, there will be a new spot to do it.

The store will be opening next to L’Occitane en Provence.

Breast cancer awareness: The folks at Geneva Commons have different projects going on — some fundraisers, some encouragement — this month, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month.

The mall’s guest relations department is encouraging you to help offer hope to those dealing with breast cancer.

They are encouraging you to send messages of inspiration through their website by going to shopgenevacommons.com.

Several stores have been offering special sales, too, with proceeds going to Breast Cancer Research. If you tried a pair of pants on at Coldwater Creek last week — even if you didn’t buy them — $1 would go to research.

H&M is selling special pink items and taking donations at its registers for breast cancer.

And Walking for Hope is selling pink items, too, with each item helping to benefit the fight against breast cancer.
