Someone must stand up for students
In a Sept. 27 article, “23rd Senate candidates focus on job creation,” the Daily Herald explained that state senate candidates Carole Pankau (R-Itasca) and Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park) have both prioritized the jobs issue in this election. As a senior at Addison Trail High School, jobs are important to me as well.
In a few years, I hope to have a well-paying job and be able to give back to my community. However, our current state senator, Carole Pankau, has shown a lack of understanding of how young people like me will prepare for the job market.
In Springfield, Senator Pankau has voted to cut assistance to college students who are working hard for the future. I know I can’t afford to pay for college on my own. Most of my classmates at Addison Trail are in the same boat. Cutting grants and scholarships won’t help students like me finish school on time.
Without an education, we won’t be prepared for the job market in DuPage County, and we won’t have all the skills we need to start our own small businesses. I know I support Tom Cullerton for state senate. We need a candidate who will stand up for Illinois students.
