Program discusses owl rehab from rescue to release

Join bird rehab expert Linda Breuer at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, as she tells the fascinating story of her work rescuing and rehabilitating a variety of raptors and other birds at her facility, Barnswallow, in Wauconda.

Breuer will explain her rehabilitation process by following the story of Pine Cone, the adolescent Great Horned Owl, from rescue in the spring to his release this fall.

In addition to the visual program, she will bring some of her resident raptors for Lake County Audubon’s first program of the new season. The meeting will be in the second floor meeting room of the Libertyville Village Hall, 118 W. Cook St., Libertyville.

Breuer and a volunteer staff operate Barnswallow, a wild bird rehabilitation and public education center, situated in a peaceful, country setting next to an Illinois nature preserve outside Wauconda. She teaches the public about raptor rehabilitation and conservation.

The program is free but a suggested donation is a roll of paper towels or a clean, gently used terry cloth towel.

The mission of the Lake County Audubon Society is education, conservation and restoration of natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the Earth’s biological diversity.
