Golfers raise money for Alzheimer’s care

The second annual Golf for a Cause to End Alzheimer’s, hosted by Autumn Leaves of Vernon Hills, was a huge success.

More than 50 people participated, including seven celebrity golfers. Retired Chicago Bears players Ronnie Bull, Dannelle Philips, Michael Hoban, and Mike Richardson joined in the event.

Gloster Richardson, two-time Super Bowl champion; Bill Leagans, retired L.A. Rams player; and Hall of Fame soccer player Willy Roy also picked up their clubs for a good cause.

The event at White Deer Run Golf Club raised $5,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association, earmarked for the Lake County area.

“The event was a success in our eyes,” said Brad Jacobsen, regional sales director of Constant Care Family Management, the property management company for Autumn Leaves memory care communities.

“We really appreciated the celebrities coming out to help us raise money and attract golfers.”

Autumn Leaves of Vernon Hills co-sponsored the event with Brightstar Care. The event allows both groups to help people in the community who are living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. The companies are already looking forward to holding the charity golf tournament next year.

“Autumn Leaves is a memory care residence in the Chicagoland area serving the same population of folks served by the Alzheimer’s Association,” said Jacobsen. “It has been an honor to help raise funds for the organization’s efforts.”

The event included 24 raffle prizes donated by 18 supporting businesses, and 13 of the holes had sponsors. The tournament will have a more regional focus next year.

Family owned and operated, Autumn Leaves communities combine a warm, homelike environment with the highest quality memory care available. Specialized in every aspect, Autumn Leaves memory care residences are focused on meeting residents’ emotional, physical, social and nutritional needs in a homelike environment.
