Get facts straight on health care law
In a Sept. 2 letter to the editor, “Robinson an Obama apologist,” Bob Grens claims, “A fact is President Obama took $716 billion out of Medicare to finance his Obamacare.”
I suggest Mr. Grens recheck the facts.
The real and verifiable fact is that The Affordable Care Act found $716 billion in spending reductions mainly aimed at insurance companies and hospitals, not beneficiaries. Neither Obama nor his health care law literally cut funding from the Medicare program budget. The Affordable Health Care law made significant reductions to Medicare Advantage plans. These plans started under George W. Bush and run by private insurers were supposed to promote competition among private insurers to reduce costs. However, the plans have actually cost the government more than traditional Medicare.
Mr. Grens is clearly entitled to his own opinions, but certainly not to his own facts.
