Abstract artist displaying works at North Central College

Abstract paintings and acrylic on paper by Bolivian-American artist Domingo Parada will be featured in an exhibit at North Central College in Naperville.

The public exhibit, “Domingo Parada: New Work,” is open from Sunday, Sept. 16, through Wednesday, Nov. 7, in the college’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St., Naperville. Admission is free. An artist’s reception will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Parada, who also is known as Domingo Parada-Farjat, uses the spectrum of colors together with geometric forms to demonstrate the moments of his conscious experience.

“I believe that, as a painter, my creative work is the fruit of my awareness of the world that surrounds us,” Parada says. “But the world is not only a visual world. It is also the immeasurable world of our interior mind, its landscape of emotions, imagination and fantasy.”

Considered a pioneer and one of the most important figures in contemporary art in Bolivia, Parada studied at the Universidad San Francisco Xavier. He later studied under renowned contemporary artist Ivan Serpa at the Museo de Arte Moderna in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

He moved to the United States in 1966 and has exhibited his work multiple times throughout South, Central and North America.

His paintings are included in private collections in South America, Europe, the United States and Asia, and his work has received numerous prizes, including an honorary mention at the Art & Soul Exhibition in Chicago.
