Campton Hills home destroyed in fire

Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire that completely destroyed the Campton Hills dream home of Debbie and Bob Notaro Monday morning.

“It just burned. I don’t know how it started,” said Debbie Notaro, sitting on a bench overlooking the rubble of her home in the 3N100 block of Spring Wood Lane in Campton Hills.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 8:57 a.m., but the dead-end street did not have any fire hydrants.

Fire officials said 17 departments responded to the fire and water had to be trucked in to the blaze.

Spring Wood Lane is a dead-end street so firetrucks had to go to the end of the street to turn around in order to leave so that additional trucks could arrive with more water.

No serious injuries were reported.

Fire officials said an emergency call came in at 8:57 a.m. and firefighters were on the scene in seven minutes.

Sue Kierys of Chicago, said her sister, Debbie, and her husband had lived in the home for about seven years and were home when the fire broke out.

Debbie was in the shower and Bob was lying down and saw flames coming from near the screened-in porch just off the home’s great room.

Bob sustained a minor burn on his forehead and the couple escaped the home, managing to save their dogs and sport utility vehicle but nothing else, Kierys said.

“There’s nothing left. It was a beautiful home,” Kierys said. “I don’t know if they’ll ever be able to find out what happened.”
