Mt. Prospect Fire Dept. delivers donation to Ronald McDonald House

On Aug. 24, 2012 the Mount Prospect Fire Department dropped off a donation of wish list items to the Ronald McDonald House located at the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital. The donation included a variety of paper and household goods, gift cards to local retailers and an entire pallet each of laundry soap and dishwasher detergent.

The Fire Department began collecting donations from its employees after participating in the “Meals from the Heart” program at the Ronald McDonald House. Ronald McDonald Houses are operated almost entirely by volunteers and donations from the local community. Ronald McDonald House staff provided Fire Chief John Malcolm with a wish list of needed items in July, which started the donation drive. Chief Malcolm then contacted local company, Multi-Pack Solutions to find out if they would be willing to make a donation as well. Multi-Pack, located on Central Road in Mount Prospect, worked with one of its clients, Sun Products Corporation, and was able to donate a pallet each of laundry soap and dishwasher detergent. The Fire Department estimates the retail value of the donations made by its employees and Multi-Pack to be approximately $6,000.

Fire Chief John Malcolm stated that the “Fire Department employees and Multi-Pack were so generous with their donations. It was a great feeling delivering all of the donations and helping fill some of the almost bare shelves in the Ronald McDonald House storage room.”

Ronald McDonald Houses around the world provide a “home away from home” environment for families facing serious illness and/or injury. These houses allow them to stay close by their hospitalized loved ones at little or no cost so that they can focus on getting the care they need.
