Lakemoor selects new police chief

A veteran of the Lake County sheriff’s office has been named Lakemoor’s new police chief, Mayor Todd Weihofen announced Friday.

David Godlewski replaces William Kushner as chief. Kushner resigned in August to become Des Plaines’ top cop.

Godlewski is a 25-year veteran of the sheriff’s office who was chief of operations when he retired this past May.

Weihofen praised Godlewski’s administrative background and said he expects him to build a good relationship with the community.

“I think he’s going to be a good fit for the village of Lakemoor,” Weihofen said.

The village board approved Godlewski’s hiring Thursday night. His first day will be Tuesday.

Lakemoor has struggled to keep a police chief in recent years.

Kushner had been chief since November 2010. He replaced Michael Marchese, who had the job for a mere eight months.

Glenn Leonard and Wally Frasier also held the top cop’s job in recent years.
