Kane Sheriff car/motorcycle show to benefit kids with cancer

Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez’s 6th annual Charity Car/Motorcycle Show is Saturday in Elburn, and organizers hope to pass the $11,000 mark in fundraising efforts.

That’s how much Perez said was raised at last year’s show, which benefitted Special Olympics.

Perez said organizers hope to top that for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, the designated charity for Saturday’s show that runs from noon to 3 p.m. at the Martin family farm, 2S111 Green Road.

“Every year we pick a different charity,” Perez pointed out. “It’s one thing for an adult to contract cancer. But when it’s a child, it’s certainly more devastating. Our goal for this year is to beat the previous year or match it. We are about halfway to our goal through sponsorships. We’re hoping for a big turnout.” It’s $10 to enter a car or motorcycle into the show and $5 per carload of spectators. The afternoon also features a disc jockey, a 50/50 raffle and food. Sunday is the rain date.

Perez said the most vehicles ever entered was 246 and overall, the event has raised more than $40,000 for local charities since it started. He’s hoping for 250 to 300 cars Saturday.

“When we do our show, it’s not just a percentage of proceeds, it’s 100 percent (that goes to the charity),” Perez said. “It’s a good chance for the public to meet us on a more level ... a human basis, as opposed to conflict resolution. It’s just a great family event.

People entering their cars in the show can register from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be stock cars, Modified, pre-1949, Corvettes, muscle cars and emergency vehicles on display. Awards will be given out, including Best in Show and Sheriff’s Choice.
