World War II revisited at Kuipers Family Farm

Take a step back into the 1940s as members of the World War II Historical Re-Enactment Society bring history to life from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, at Kuipers Family Farm, 1N318 Watson Road, Maple Park.

Through the use of authentic uniforms, equipment and vehicles, this national organization of historians, teachers, military collectors, veterans and others strive to educate about and honor those who served in World War II.

Each day you can visit the camps and see the artifacts of that period. The World War II Historical Re-Enactment Society members will make themselves available for questions and factual insight into the life of the soldier down to the smallest recorded detail.

Items on display include heavy equipment and weapons of the era.

Visitors can also avail themselves of Kuipers’ offerings, including apple picking, browsing gifts in the Orchard Shop and the popular apple cider doughnuts.

Battle simulations will be held at noon and 3 p.m. each day.

A small donation is requested to attend the battle simulations. All donation proceeds go to cover the costs incurred by the re-enactors to bring artifacts to the event.
