Eitelbach shoots record 75 for Hersey

She speaks English, German and a little bit of French.

Her golf game spoke volumes on Saturday at the Arlington Lakes Golf Course in Arlington Heights.

Junior Flo Eitelbach, a foreign exchange student from Germany, wrote a new chapter in Hersey girls golf history when she fired a 7-over 75 in the Huskies’ Orange and Brown Throwdown.

Eitelbach’s round of 75 is the lowest 18-hole score in Hersey history. The previous low round was held by Megan Rogowski, who shot a 79 on a par-72 course two years ago.

Eitelbach’s score tied for second with St. Charles East’s Paige Jordan in the individual competition which was won by Neuqua Valley’s Jessica Yeun (70).

Neuqua Valley also won the team competition with a 329 while the Huskies, boosted by Eitbelbach’s round, placed sixth with a 353.

“Oh that’s cool,” Eitelbach said when she learned she set a school record that included one birdie on hole No. 11.

Eitelbach, who has been playing golf in Germany for about three years, wasn’t even sure she’d be playing in America.

“I was surprised when they said they had a golf team (at Hersey),” she said. “When I heard about it, I asked if I could join, and they said ‘yeah’. We play in high school in Germany but it’s not as big. Maybe one meet a year.”

Eitelbach’s lowest round in Germany was a 78 on a par 72.

“The kids on the team love her,” said Hersey coach Bob Murphy. “They all get along so well, and they all went to the football game on Friday night.”

Eitelbach hit every fairway on Saturday.

“She hits the ball right down the middle,” Huber said. “She’s straight and she manages the course very well. She has great tempo on her swing.”

Completing the Hersey scorecard were Katie McIlree (90), Claire Schwaba (93), Lexi Heidkamp (95) and Alysia Zaucha (95).

The Huskies were coming off a 168 in an Mid-Suburban tri-meet victory over Barrington and Palatine on Thursday at Rob Roy Golf Course. That score was Hersey’s second-best in school history.
