Alpine Races Offers Family Fitness

Clear skies, cooler temperatures, beautiful colors and the fresh smell of fall have taken hold. This wonderful time of the year lends itself to many fall fitness activities that the entire family can enjoy. Apple picking, pumpkin decorating, football, cycling and running are some of the many choices for the family to engage in this season.

One such family activity for healthy living is the 34th annual Alpine Races in Lake Zurich, IL, to be held on September 23, 2012. Sponsored by the Alpine Runners, this running festival has an event for every age group and fitness level. The race boasts a half-marathon with a fast course and plenty of support as well as a 5K run/walk around beautiful Lake Zurich for those looking for a shorter distance. For the children, a youth mile is offered as well as shorter races for the little ones. All participants receive a goodie bag with a t-shirt for the kids and a sweatshirt for the half-marathon and 5K runners. Additionally, medals will be offered this year and a pair of running shoes to the overall male and female runners of each event.

Post race refreshments are provided by Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. Many other local merchants help to sponsor this family fitness event including NovaCare, PNC Bank, R.H. Shudy Plumbing, Casten Body Shop, Goodyear Tire and Auto, All Ways Healthy, Running Unlimited, Foley Orthodontics, Skopek Orthodontics, Koffee Kup, and Melon Ink, just to name a few.

Registration for the Alpine Races can be completed online at www.alpineraces.org. Packet pickup and race day registration will be held at the Barn in Paulus Park. Water and Gatorade will be served at the hydration stations and drkomputing will provide timing for the races.

So, dust off your running shoes and bring the family out to Lake Zurich where everyone can participate in the race appropriate to their fitness level. The Alpine Races on September 23 is a family friendly event that offers fun through healthy living.
