Boomers’ comeback falls short
After spotting the Road Warriors a 4-run lead, the Schaumburg Boomers battled back to get within a run before dropping a 6-5 decision at Boomers Stadium on Saturday.
The Boomers (47-36) failed to capitalize on another loss by both the Windy City ThunderBolts and Gateway Grizzlies. However, Schaumburg did not lose any ground in the Frontier League’s tight West Division race as the Boomers remain 1 game back in the standings.
Schaumburg collected 12 hits, and four Boomers sluggers had multi-hit performances. Jereme Milons led the way with his first 3-hit performance of 2012 while Steve McQuail and Nate Baumann both went 2-for-4 with an extra base hit, a walk and a run scored. Frontier League all-star third baseman Frank Pfister also finished 2-for-4 with his team-leading 53rd RBI.
The Road Warriors pulled away early with a run in the first and three in the second against Boomers starter Cody Griebling, who fell to 4-2 with the loss.
Schaumburg rookie starter Cody Griebling allowed 6 runs on 7 hits over in 5 innings.
