Juvenile charged in Waukegan mugging
A juvenile has been charged with stealing $2,000 from a man outside a Waukegan bakery while holding the victim at gunpoint, according to police.
Officers responded to the armed robbery outside Tute’s Bakery, 623 Greenwood Ave. at 9:25 p.m. Saturday and found the victim who had been robbed of the cash, a cellphone and cigarettes.
The victim told police he was having a cigarette when two boys approached him and one displayed a handgun.
The boys then fled on bicycles.
Waukegan police officers spotted the boys on the 2100 block of Lorraine Avenue shortly after receiving the 911 call and were able to apprehend one of them.
The second boy eluded police and remains at large.
Officers said they found $1,000 in cash, an authentic-looking BB gun and the victim’s cellphone on the suspect. The victim identified the him as one of the thieves, according to police.
Police said the boy admitted his involvement in the robbery.
He was charged with aggravated robbery and resisting arrest and was taken to the Depke Juvenile Detention Facility, where he remains.
