Schaumburg police charge two Wisconsin men with cocaine delivery

A Cook County judge on Wednesday set bail at $200,000 for a 22-year-old Wisconsin man who authorities say tried to sell undercover officers cocaine Tuesday night in a Schaumburg parking lot in the 1500 block of North Roselle Road.

Police charged Caesar Hernandez, 22, from South Beloit, with armed violence, a class X felony punishable by six to 30 years in prison, and delivery of cocaine, a class 1 felony punishable by four to 15 years in prison.

Currently on parole, Hernandez was released in April from an Illinois prison where he was serving a six-year sentence for manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, said Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Jennifer Walsh.

Christapher Nelson, 27, also faces charges in connection with the undercover operation. Nelson, of Beloit, Wis., was charged with possession with intent to deliver and delivery of cocaine, both class 1 felonies.

He is wanted on a misdemeanor warrant out of Rockford for resisting a peace officer, Walsh said. The judge set his bond at $75,000.

Walsh said Hernandez had agreed to meet a Schaumburg Police Department confidential informant to sell him about 2½ ounces of cocaine for $1,300. Hernandez arrived in a car driven by Nelson and got into another car with the informant, where he was subsequently arrested at about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, Walsh said.

Officers recovered two bags containing more than 71 grams of cocaine. They also recovered a .357 Magnum, which had been reported stolen in Janesville, Wis.

Walsh said police found cocaine in the doors and center console of the car and also recovered a digital scale and plastic bags.

Hernandez and Nelson next appear in court on Sept. 4.
