Mount Prospect hosts school supply drive
The Village of Mount Prospect Human Services Department is reaching out to help Mount Prospect’s families with school-age children who are struggling financially.
“This year, we are attempting to give children a backpack filled with some of the more costly items on their school supply list,” said Victoria Bran, the Community Connections Center coordinator. “We’ve found that many of the stores offer tremendous sales for the children’s most basic school supplies, which the families themselves can purchase. The more costly items, such as backpacks, post-it notes, crayons and colored markers, highlighters, flash drives, disinfectant wipes, facial tissue and plastic storage bags are often the items families cannot afford.”
The Mount Prospect Fire Department and Mount Prospect Firefighters Union are joining the effort to help these families by donating a backpack with supplies for a child from kindergarten through eighth grade. Donations are being accepted at the following Mount Prospect collection sites through Aug. 13: Walgreens Stores at 1028 S. Emerson and at 1701 E. Kensington roads, Mount Prospect Village Hall at 50 S. Emerson, the police/fire department lobby at 112 E. Northwest Highway and the Community Connections Center at 1711 W. Algonquin Road.
Monetary contributions can be made payable to the “Mount Prospect Emergency Food Pantry” and mailed to: Village of Mount Prospect Human Services Department, 50 S. Emerson, Mount Prospect, IL 60056.
