Sound of Summer Series coming to a close

Throughout the summer, Palatine Park District has been pleased to present the 25th anniversary season of the Sounds of Summer Concert Series. The series included 13 concerts performed by a wide variety of musical talent offering a complete range of musical genres from rock and roll to classical to big band. Record crowds attended this year's events, including an estimated 4,000 fans at the American English Concert held on June 15.

There are three more concerts scheduled in August. Palatine Concert Band will perform on Wednesday, Aug. 1 and Ronnie Rice will end the evening concert season on Friday, Aug. 3. Both of these concerts will be held at 8 p.m. at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater, 262 E. Palatine Road, Palatine. On Friday, Aug. 10, Tropixplosion will be offering their tropical sounds at Towne Square, 150 W. Palatine Road at noon. Come on out with your blankets, chairs and picnics for these free Sounds of Summer performances.

Throughout the summer series, Palatine Park District has been selling raffle tickets for a Weber Spirit E210 Propane Grill valued at $399 that was donated by Palatine Ace Hardware. Tickets will be sold at the August 1 and August 3 concerts, and the winner will be announced at the Ronnie Rice show on August 3.

A concert series of this magnitude is truly a community effort, and Palatine Park District would like to thanks those who supported Sounds of Summer this year: Alexian Brothers, Baxter and Beasley Doggie Day Care, Ben & Jerry's, CNGM Film Festival, Cornerstone National Bank and Trust Company, Daily Herald Media Group, Dobby's World Wide Wine & Liquors, Kiwanis Club of Palatine, Kohring Electric, Lavelle Law, Palatine Ace Hardware, Palatine/Inverness Arts Council, Palatine Women's Club, Photo's Hot Dogs, Premier Credit Union, Prudential Starck Realtors, Weber-Stephen Products, and Whole Foods Market-Palatine.
