Roth, Valadez propel Boomers

An RBI-single in the fourth off the bat of catcher Mike Valadez provided the only run as the Schaumburg Boomers defeated the Joliet Slammers 1-0 in a pitcher’s duel Wednesday at Boomers Stadium in Schaumburg.

Coming off a big series victory against the Windy City ThunderBolts, the Boomers (36-25) rode the left arm of starter Cameron Roth (7-4, 3.26) to win their second straight and improve to 25-9 at Boomers Stadium.

The 6-foot-4 former Baltimore Orioles farmhand struck out eight in 8 shutout innings. Closer Patrick Mincey clinched another Boomers victory by striking out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth for his 11th save of the season.

K.C. Judge, the newest member of the Boomers, acquired Tuesday in a trade that sent J.B. Brown to the Normal CornBelters, was the lone Schaumburg batter with multiple hits on the night. Karexon Sanchez reached base three times for the Boomers out of the leadoff spot, thanks to a hit and a pair of walks.
