Volunteer Express rides available to Hanover Twp. residents
Hanover Township residents that have medical appointments and social engagements outside the boundaries of the township Dial-A-Bus program can now take advantage of the Volunteer Express. Implemented last year to provide safe and reliable transportation for riders over the age of 55, and for persons with disabilities over the age 18, the Volunteer Express satisfies a need of over 30 rides a month due to out-of-boundary service requests or beyond service hours.
“This is a quality, free service available to our residents, who want to maintain an active lifestyle,” said Brian P. McGuire, Hanover Township Supervisor. “Our township Dial-A-Bus program already provides over 1,000 one-way trips each month and we are pleased to offer a supplemental service to this program.”
Through a grant from the Regional Transportation Authority and a contribution from the Township Senior Citizens’ Service Committee, volunteer drivers are reimbursed for their mileage. This ensures that Volunteer Express remains a low-cost program for both the volunteers as well as the riders, many of whom are dependent on township services.
