Boomers fall 8-6 on road

SAUGET, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers took an early 2-0 lead, but the Gateway Grizzlies scored 8 straight runs against starter Cameron Roth and held off the Boomers 8-6 on Friday night.

The Boomers came ready against Gateway starter Tim Brown, who started the All-Star Game for the West.

Sean Mahley recorded a double for the Boomers in the second inning and scored on a fielder’s choice from Jereme Milons.

Chad Mozingo’s solo homer in the third extended the lead to 2-0.

The Grizzlies got to Roth for 5 runs on 4 hits in the third, sending 10 batters to the plate. Roth allowed 2 more runs in the fourth and 1 in the fifth.

Nate Baumann hit a 3-run homer in the eighth for Schaumburg, which added a pair of unearned runs in the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate but couldn’t complete the comeback.

The loss was the fourth in a row for the Boomers, the most this season.
