Sox recall pitcher Marinez from Charlotte
Before tonight’s game at Kansas City, the White Sox recalled right-handed pitcher Jhan Marinez from Class AAA Charlotte.
Marinez takes the roster spot of right-hander Deunte Heath, who was optioned to Charlotte after Sunday’s game.
Marinez, 23, is 2-2 with a 3.14 ERA (15 ER/43.0 IP) and 47 strikeouts in 26 relief appearances with Charlotte this season. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder has limited opponents to a .182 (28-154) average, third-lowest among International League relievers, and has thrown 13.0 consecutive scoreless innings over his last six outings.
He began the season ranked by Baseball America as the No. 7 Prospect in the White Sox organization. Marinez was acquired from Miami last fall as part of the compensation for the Marlins agreeing to terms with manager Ozzie Guillen.
