Lightning strike causes Lisle house fire

Strong storms that passed through the suburbs late Friday afternoon — and the lighting that came with it — contributed to a fire that left a house uninhabitable in Lisle, authorities said.

Lightning struck the top of the house on the 4700 block of Devon Avenue about 4:45 p.m., sparking a blaze that was able to be contained to the attic, according to Battalion Chief Jim Bateman of the Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District.

The homeowner was home at the time of the lightning strike, but he didn’t know anything about it until a neighbor came to his house to tell him, Bateman said.

No one was injured as a result of the fire.

The damage to the roof was so extensive that the homeowner wouldn’t have been able to stay there on Friday, Bateman said.
