Vernon Hills man named group’s Man of the Year
Submitted by James Schultz
James E. Schultz of Vernon Hills was named the Materials Handling and Management Society Chicagoland Chapter’s Man of the Year at the awards banquet following the Chapter’s annual golf outing fundraiser held on June 22 at the Highlands of Elgin Golf Course.
This event supports the Chicagoland Chapter’s effort on behalf of the Material Handling Education Foundation scholarship program for students pursuing degrees in the arts and sciences of material handling and supply chain management.
Schultz was honored for his longtime service to the Chapter and the materials handling industry. He was one of the original members of the executive team involved in the rebirth of MHMS’s Chicagoland Chapter in the mid-1990s, after which he served as the Chapter’s president for seven years.
Schultz has had a long career in the materials handling industry. He spent 37 years with W.W. Grainger, where he lead the design/build team, creating Grainger’s next-day distribution network which includes more than 5 million square feet of warehouse space across the U.S.
Not content to rest on his laurels after retiring from Grainger, Schultz now serves as a senior consultant with Business Engineering Inc., working with small- and medium-sized companies, helping them deal with warehousing and distribution issues.
Schultz also has served as a trustee on the village board of Vernon Hills for the past 7½ years.
